A New Recipe for an Old Voice
Boasting a new body design, new neck joint, new bracing, and a new aesthetic, Taylor's Gold Label Collection reveals a stunning old-heritage sound that's unlike anything they have ever produced. Crafted with innovative new ideas to produce an older, vintage-inspired sound, the Gold Label 814e Koa-SB complements its sonic richness and complexity with a stylish sunburst finish.
The Gold Label Collection draws inspiration from flattop acoustic guitars from the 1930s and ’40s, whose warm, woody sound and open, sweet character came to define generations of music.
This model features the new Super Auditorium body shape, similar to the well-known Grand Auditorium but with slightly wider contours that, along with a new fanned V-Class bracing variant, help it generate greater power while remaining focused and clear at any volume. The projection is powerful without being overbearing, the bottom end is present in a way not normally heard on a Taylor, and the top end shimmers just as you would expect. Simply put, it sounds amazing.
Back and sides of beautifully figured Hawaiian koa combine with a specially roasted Sitka spruce top to yield a lush midrange character with remarkable low-end presence along with the boosts to volume and sustain that come with the V-Class architecture.
Exclusive to the Gold Label Collection, the new Action Control Neck design combines the tonal benefits of a long-tenon neck joint with easy neck angle micro-adjustability, allowing the string height (action) to be tweaked with unprecedented ease and precision. The long tenon extends deeper into the guitar body and, together with the heel structure, enhances the wood coupling to produce greater low-end resonance and a sound comparable to traditional neck designs. Like Taylor’s existing neck, the neck joint is glueless, but
instead of incorporating tapered shims to calibrate the neck angle, the design is shimless. The string height can be adjusted literally in seconds by using a quarter-inch nut driver (or standard truss rod wrench) on a bolt in the neck block, accessible inside the soundhole. Neither the neck nor the strings need to be removed to make adjustments. The design serves players by allowing them to adjust their string height for different playing styles, applications or climate conditions as often as they like
instead of incorporating tapered shims to calibrate the neck angle, the design is shimless.
