Used Vintage Guild J-66 Guitar Amp Combo

Used Vintage Guild J-66 Guitar Amp Combo

Used And Vintage Amps

We just got in a rare little beast of an amp, a Guild J-66 from the early 1960's.  Some of you may now how cool these vintage Guild amps are.  For those that don't, here's a bit of history:

The Guild amp designs of the early 1960s were loosely based on amp circuits made by Ampeg and Fender. The "J" series of amps followed the Masteramp series and the J-66 was introduced in 1957. The '50s models had trapezoidal grills while the '60s models were square. The J-66 amp is similar to its contemporaries, the tweed Fender Tremolux and the Ampeg Mercury, in that it is powered by 6V6 power tubes and has tremolo, but has a unique circuit.  Early 66-J amps had "Model 66" silk screened on the control panel, but this was omitted on later amps. This version was mostly made in 1962 - 1963, and was discontinued in 1966, so there aren't many around.

It's a great sounding amp, very balanced and perfectly suited to take pedals.  We were actually surprised at how well this would work in many scenarios, whether live or in studio.  The amp itself is in really good shape considering it's age - we're talking 60 years plus now.  It's definitely worn, especially on the control plate and corners, but it's nothing too major.  It's structurally and functionally fine - the amp has been vetted and tested to good working order.  It does not come with a cover or footswitch.  The speaker was replaced long ago, with a Weber Blue Dog (which is a great speaker).  All of the other parts are original.

This is a sweet amp, full of vintage vibe, and a great score.  We've never had one and it would likely be a long time till be get another, so grab it before it's gone!
