Vintage 1922 Gibson F4 Mandolin with OHSC

Vintage 1922 Gibson F4 Mandolin with OHSC

Used And Vintage

Rare, incredible, and aged for 101 years (soon to be 102).  That's the story of this vintage Gibson F4 mandolin.  Built in 1922, it's lasted this long, and it's ready to go for another century.

With Lloyd Loar as the head designer of Gibson from 1919 to 1924, this period marked the "Golden Age" of mandolins. The F-4 was Gibson's most esteemed model prior to the F-5's release in 1922, featuring a two-point F-style body and an oval sound-hole. These oval sound-holes generate a mellow and rounded sound, rather than the sharper tone of the later f-hole designs. The F-4 was discontinued in 1943, which is why the majority of existing models are prewar.

This Gibson F-4 is a 1922 model crafted in the era of Lloyd Loar. It is in excellent condition, with only the natural wear of its century-long history and no signs of structural repairs. Cosmetically, it is free of any serious dents or damages.  The finish is a knockout - it's absolutely incredible.  Be sure to check out the photos to see every detail of this instrument.

This Gibson F-4 is a powerful representation of Loar-era craftsmanship, delivering a warm and refined tone that will shine through for years.  This vintage 1922 instrument has been skillfully preserved and still has plenty of musical life left in it.  It's all original, other than a refret and a new nut, with the original finish, and the original hardshell case is included.  That's something you rarely would see.

What we have here is something special.  For any serious collector, this is a piece of history that is well worth consideration.  One would be hard pressed to find another exactly like it.
